Look up your job

Use an enabled MultiTEL API account. Send HTTP Basic credentials for a password account, or a Bearer token for a token account. Account permissions and IP restrictions still apply. Do not use internal worker credentials.

curl --silent --show-error --get --user "$API_USER:$API_PASSWORD" \
  --data-urlencode job_id=0123456789abcdef0123456789abcdef \
  https://api.multitel.net/v3/fax_status

job_id is required and must be the 32-character hexadecimal identifier returned by send_fax. Copy it exactly. Requests are scoped to the authenticated owner.

Read the result

Read both the HTTP result and the JSON status.code. JSON failures may arrive with HTTP 200. A successful JSON response has status and response; the examples use fictional data.

{
  "status": {
    "code": 200,
    "msg": "Fax status"
  },
  "response": {
    "job_id": "0123456789abcdef0123456789abcdef",
    "from_number": "+12125550123",
    "to_number": "+12125550124",
    "status": "queued",
    "result": "",
    "pages_requested": 3,

    "cost": "0.07500",
    "webhook_status": "",

    "updated_at": "2026-10-23 10:00:00"
  }
}

The example is a queued job, not a delivered fax or a price quote. pages_requested is the detected source page count; pages_sent reports progress recorded by processing. cost is a decimal string and may already contain an estimate while queued. result carries processing detail; webhook_status carries the recorded callback state. Timestamps are server-formatted strings without a time-zone offset.

Poll with increasing intervals rather than a tight loop. Processing can report a sent or completed state, but the current audit has not established a recipient delivery guarantee. For a critical document, confirm receipt with the recipient before treating it as delivered or sending a duplicate. The active worker lifecycle, final billing rules and callback contract are still being verified. Do not assume that queue acceptance or a nonempty job ID means delivery.

Errors

API code 400 means missing or malformed job_id; 401 means missing authentication; 404 means the job was not found for this account. Do not infer ownership from the identifier alone.
