Activate and verify emergency calling

Register the correct calling number and physical service location, then confirm activation before relying on emergency calling. Saving an address or receiving a successful submission response is not proof that the service is active.

United States and Canada: register E911

  1. Sign in to Emergency calling and use the production environment for North American E911.
  2. Choose the number that will be sent as the emergency caller ID. Supported US/Canada numbers can be in your MultiTEL inventory or a supported bring-your-own number.
  3. Enter the end user’s name and physical service address, including unit/suite details when needed. Resolve validation suggestions and complete the displayed consent acknowledgments.
  4. Review the number, address and charges, then submit.
  5. Open the registration again. Resolve any action-required or validation result and wait for the registration to show active. Pending or submitted records are not ready for use.

Europe: check the exact country and number type

  1. Review emergency-calling coverage for the number’s country and type. The supported emergency digits differ by country; do not assume 110 or 112 applies everywhere.
  2. Select the owned international number in Emergency calling. Supply the requested saved registration document or the end user’s identity and address.
  3. Review the requirements and price, submit the registration, and inspect its lifecycle status. Complete any requested correction.
  4. Continue only when the production registration is active. International sandbox records do not activate real emergency calling.

Configure the phone system

Present the exact registered number as emergency caller ID. Use the emergency routing destination and dialing rules supplied for that service. Keep general outbound rules from replacing the caller ID or adding prefixes to emergency digits. A separate location needs the appropriate number/address mapping; a company billing address is not a substitute for the caller’s location.

Verify without calling an emergency operator

Use the non-emergency test procedure displayed for the activated service or confirmed by support. Verify the number and address returned by that procedure and inspect the configured route. Do not assume the former 711 test route applies to every current service or to Europe. Do not dial 911, 112 or 110 merely to test the setup.

Keep the location current

Update registration when the service location or emergency caller ID changes, and check the resulting status. Internet service, power and device configuration affect VoIP calling; keep a suitable alternative means of making emergency calls. For API integration, use the emergency REST guide.
