Connect a FreePBX inbound trunk

Route a MultiTEL number to your FreePBX system and identify the incoming trunk before selecting the extension, IVR or queue that answers.

Collect the current route values

  1. Open Number inventory and edit the exact number. Record its assigned Origination Trunk; different numbers may use different trunks.
  2. Choose SIP as the voice destination and enter the SIP address of your reachable PBX, using the number/user part that your inbound route expects. A private address such as 10.x.x.x is not an Internet-reachable destination.
  3. Keep anonymous inbound SIP disabled. Configure the FreePBX trunk to accept calls from the current authorized signaling sources for the assigned MultiTEL trunk.
  4. Use the supported PJSIP or SIP settings for your installed FreePBX version. Match transport and NAT/media configuration to the deployment rather than copying a different installation’s IP addresses.
  5. In FreePBX, create the inbound route for the DID presented by the trunk and choose its destination. Apply the configuration.

Verify the full inbound path

Call the public number from an outside line. Check the received DID, trunk match, selected route, ringing, audio and keypad tones. Test busy and no-answer behavior too. If signaling reaches the PBX but the destination does not ring, inspect the DID matching rule and the called-number headers before changing firewall rules.

The current portal’s external PBX guide provides the account-specific trunk workflow. Find the correct origination trunk before configuring its source allowlist.
